FBI Recovers DNA From Glove in Search for Nancy Guthrie’s Abductor
Federal investigators have recovered DNA from a black glove found near the Tucson home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie who was abducted earlier this month.
According to reporting by the New York Post, the glove may match the one worn by the masked suspect captured on surveillance video outside Guthrie’s home the night she disappeared.
The development marks one of the most significant forensic updates in the investigation since Guthrie was reported missing.
Glove Found Near Home May Match Suspect
The glove, one of 16 reportedly recovered during the search, was found roughly two miles from Guthrie’s home, according to law enforcement sources cited by The Post.
An FBI spokesperson told Fox News that the DNA profile recovered from one of the gloves appears to match the gloves worn by the masked suspect seen on surveillance footage. However, authorities cautioned that it has not yet been confirmed that the glove definitively belonged to the suspect.
Investigators were observed collecting the glove from a roadside earlier this week.
DNA Testing Underway
FBI evidence technicians are now double-checking the DNA results before running the profile through CODIS, the FBI’s national DNA database.
An FBI spokesperson said it typically takes about 24 hours for DNA to be processed and uploaded once received by the bureau. However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Sunday that some DNA results are still pending at a private laboratory in Florida.
Authorities have prioritized certain DNA submissions but have not publicly disclosed which samples may be processed first.
Investigation Continues
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, and officials have described the case as an abduction. Surveillance video from her Nest doorbell camera captured a masked individual wearing gloves and dark clothing at her front door shortly before she disappeared.
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, continue to assist in the investigation.
Officials have emphasized that while the glove represents a potentially critical development, no definitive match has yet been announced.
